With the improvement of medical in our country, the number of nuclear medical equipment such as PET-CT, PET-MR and SPECT in hospitals has increased greatly. However, the professional talents of radiopharmaceuticals are in great shortage. In order to meet the needs of medical and health development in this field, the Department of Radiopharmaceuticals was established in June 2019. In August 2019, Nanjing Medical University and Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine signed a strategic partnership agreement for training the professional talents. Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine is a well-known research base of nuclear medicine both domestically and internationally, which integrates scientific research, clinical, information and technological development and owns the key laboratory of Nuclear Medicine of the National Health Commission, the Key Laboratory of Molecular Nuclear Medicine of Jiangsu province, and the key discipline of nuclear medicine of the of Jiangsu Commission of Health.
Radiopharmaceuticals is a subject that researches the theory, preparation and application of radiolabelling drugs. The contents of radiopharmaceuticals include the sources of various nuclides used for the labeling of drugs and the methods for their separation and purification; the synthesis, identification and quality control of the labeled compounds used as drugs; the function and localization, kinetics, biodistribution, management and performance evaluation of drugs, etc. In addition, reasonable use of various radiopharmaceuticals, so that patients can benefit the most in diagnosis and treatment. Radiopharmaceuticals is closely related to medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, nuclear medicine and other disciplines.
The course offered in Department of Radiopharmaceuticals is “From Bench to Bed: Basics and Clinical Practice of Nuclear Medicine”. The main contents of this course include: Overview and current status of nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceuticals, research methods of nuclear medicine, design and progress of radioactive molecular probes, clinical imaging and functional diagnosis and treatment of nuclear medicine. The course is taught by experienced experts from the Department of Radiopharmaceuticals, Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine and the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. This course is oriented to solve clinical problems, focuses on expanding vision, guides scientific research on the basis of interdisciplinary and aims at training professional talents.
